This year, the Leaders met online to discuss and adopt the 2024 Annual Report, drafted by His Excellency Mr. Antonio Patriota.
A packed schedule of events
Ms. Donia KAOUACH, Executive Director, and Mr. Jean-Pierre RAFFARIN, President, opened the discussion by presenting the Leaders’ agenda for the 2024–2025 year.
As demands for the Leaders’ involvement increase, they will be traveling to France for the Francophonie Summit, to be held in October 2024, during which they will share their experiences using the French language for peace and diplomacy, and for strengthening women’s leadership.
In the fall, the Leaders will also be called upon to participate in a Traveling School of Peace in Beirut.
Finally, in November 2024, a delegation of Leaders will travel to Brazil to present the report—which was debated and adopted online—to President Lula and to discuss with him and other Brazilian government officials the role of the Global South in the global balance of power.
A report highlighting the new parameters of global governance
This year’s 2024 report focuses on the new parameters of global governance.
The Global South, the linchpin of the new global architecture, is leading the call for an overhaul of the international system, as its growing political, economic, and demographic weight demands a reevaluation of the balance of power in favor of more inclusive governance.
The climate emergency and the energy transition, in turn, reveal the weaknesses of a fractured governance system and the divergent interests of leaders that are delaying the resolution of the greatest challenge facing future generations.
Finally, artificial intelligence is reshaping our relationship with reliable, high-quality information, and its uses, if not controlled and ethically regulated, can seriously compromise the security of states and political structures.
Leaders for Peace continues to mobilize public opinion and policymakers on these issues and will soon present its 2024 report to the United Nations Secretary-General to help restore constructive dialogue for an inclusive, connected, and effective multilateralism.
